    Murata: High End Innovative capacitor

High-reliability 3 terminal 0603 size capacitor for advanced driver assistance systems

Murata developed the NFM18HC series, a 3 terminal ceramic multilayer capacitor in 0603 size (1.6 x 0.8mm) for high reliability applications in automobiles. The focus is on implementation in automobile preventive safety systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The power circuit of the processor uses a decoupling capacitor to reduce impedance, thereby suppressing fluctuation of the power voltage and increasing stability. As the processing speed (operating frequency) of the processor increases, control of impedance in a wide frequency band is needed.
A 3 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor has smaller ESL than a conventional 2 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor, so it can reduce the impedance in a high frequency band with few components. Making use of this characteristic has resulted in wide adoption for smartphones and other devices where compactness and high density are needed for mounted high speed processors. Use of 3 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitors in the auto market has recently surged due to demand for high performance processors and smaller electronics, which has accompanied the increase in high-functioning multitasking onboard equipment such as ADAS, preventive safety systems, and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI). The NFM18HC Series provides a 3 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor in the company’s smallest 1.6 x 0.8mm package (previous product was 2.0 x 1.2mm) for use in high reliability automobile applications, making a contribution to further size reduction and tighter density for automotive electronics.

Monolithic ceramic capacitors of automotive grade with high Q characteristics for V2X applications

8Murata has developed the world’s first automotive grade monolithic ceramic capacitors “GCQ series” with high Q characteristics for vehicle to X (V2X) applications. Sample shipments have already commenced, and Murata will be gearing up to mass-produce the components at the first half of 2016.

V2X refers to direct communication between vehicles or between vehicles and infrastructure such as traffic lights. This technology is aimed at avoiding accidents such as collisions and realizing a more efficient transport system. It is expected to play an important role in paving the way to the realization of fully autonomous driving in the future.
DSRC IEEE 802.11p is a V2X communication standard (communication frequency: 5.9 GHz) intended mainly for use in North America and Europe, and high Q capacitors are in demand for DC filtering and RF matching in the 5.9 GHz band. Murata has developed highly reliable automotive grade high Q capacitors to meet this need.

    Features

    • These high Q capacitors are AEC-Q200 conformable and suitable for V2X, ADAS, and other automotive communication applications.
    • The self-resonance frequency of 5.9 GHz (2.2 pF model) is ideal for DC filtering under DSRC IEEE 802.11p.
    • The internal electrodes are made of copper, which enables a high Q value at high frequencies and is ideal for matching applications.

    Applications

    • DC filtering in 5.9 GHz V2X applications
    • RF matching in V2X applications
    • RF matching in other automotive communication applications

Joint development of High Temperature Film Capacitor for automotive, with Shizuki Electric

9There are increasing demands from Manufacturers of hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles and environmentally friendly automobiles are increasing demands for electronic components that are compact, lightweight, and also have high dielectric capacitance and high heat resistance.
Capacitors used in converter and motor drive inverters are required to have a greater guarantee of high-temperature performance, than ever before, and also capacitors used in power supply lines are required to have a self-healing function. Generally, conventional high-temperature film capacitors were guaranteed to withstand temperatures of up to 105℃, and there were apprehensions to the effect that the self-healing function was not very reliable, resulting in the occurrence of short mode breakdowns.

Murata has recently developed new high-temperature film material and together with Shizuki Electric developed the heat-resistance film capacitors for automotive applications, which can be used continuously in a high-temperature environment of 125℃ and also have a reliable self-healing function. As a result of this development, the new products can be used in a temperature zone where conventional film capacitors could not be previously used.

Power line inductor for automotive high-speed PoC interface

10Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has introduced the LQW32FT series for automotive PoC circuits. This inductor provides high impedance in a wide band, with inductance of 47µH in the 1210-inch size (3.2 x 2.5mm).

PoC is increasingly used with SerDes equipment in automotive applications in order to reduce weight, with a single coax cable transferring power and image data for an onboard camera. In former PoC implementations, large and small impedance several inductors were needed to handle the broadband signal at the circuit processor and to maintain high impedance in a wide band to separate the signal and power. The LQW32FT series allows a single inductor to replace the multiple components that were formerly necessary. This supports efforts to save space and reduce the overall size of a system, and to lower total DC resistance. This component also provides a 125℃ maximum for the usage environment temperature, making it suitable for automotive circuits.

150°C, 0402 size chip ferrite bead for automotive use

11Murata has introduced the BLM15HG_BH series of 0402 size (1.0×0.5mm) chip ferrite bead with guaranteed temperature use at 150°C for automotive powertrain safety applications.

There has formerly been a guaranteed 125°C usage temperature product on the automotive market for noise suppression in the vicinity of mounted sensors, but the current product attains the 150°C guaranteed temperature usage needed by customers for high temperature applications. The use of a guaranteed 150°C product eliminates the need to avoid high temperature areas when installing, thereby granting greater freedom of design.

The BLM15EG_BH series has large impedance up to high frequency (vicinity of 1GHz), making it suitable for noise suppression over a wide frequency range.
Murata has already introduced a 150°C guaranteed temperature usage chip ferrite bead, which can be solder mounted, in the 0603 size (1.6×0.8mm) and 0805 size (2.0×1.25mm). Adding the 0402 size to the product lineup for the same series of 150°C guaranteed temperature usage chips contributes to space saving.

Compact, high-current 0806 size Metal Alloy inductors for automotive

12Murata has added the 0806-inch size (2.0 × 1.6 mm) DFE201612PD series to its DFE_PD series of Metal Alloy inductors. Suitable for the power supply of automotive information equipment such as infotainment systems, this product conforms to AEC-Q200 and supports a maximum operating temperature of 125°C. It achieves a rated current of 2.2A (at 1μH), or approximately twice the rated current of 1.0A (at 1μH) for a ferrite multilayer base power inductor of the same size.

Digital and information equipment were mainly used in the consumer market, but are also now mounted in automobiles. As a result, Demand is increasing for compact, high-current power inductors used in information electronics in automotive applications which higher reliability. Therefore, Murata has modified its DFE201612P series of compact, high-current power inductors to realize a maximum operating temperature of 125°C, and has introduced the DFE201612PD series of power inductors that also supports AEC-Q200.

RAIN RFID tag for on metal use

Murata announces a new RAIN RFID tag, p/n “LXFLANMXMG-003” for on metal use.
Placing RAIN RFID tags on metal can be challenging because metal surfaces reflect the signal emitted from the reader and interfere with communication between a tag and reader. However, Murata has patented many technologies that allow RFID tags to work in conjunction with metal objects. The LXFLANMXMG-003 is designed to use the item’s metal surface as part of the antenna, which makes the item itself part of the RAIN RFID tag.

Murata developed the LXFLANMXMG-003 tag specifically for industries, where metal assets are required to be tracked. It is ideal for items that include construction equipment, IT assets, cage cars or logistics containers, and other metal parts used in the manufacturing industry. It can also be used to identify an items location. Items such as tools, containers and bins are often difficult to identify visually, difficult to track and relocate if they go missing, and may also be expensive to replace. Murata’s on-metal tag enables the application of RAIN RFID on all of these items and allows for enhanced inventory tracking.
