Discoms propose tariff for electronic vehicles

With electric vehicles on the rise and charging stations coming up in the state, Telangana power distribution companies have come up with electric vehicles tariff for charging station and battery swap.

For low tension (LT) use, the companies will charge 6.10 per unit and for high tension (HT) usage, 7.10 per unit from 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm. From 10pm to 6am (next day), 5.10 per unit will be charged. For all other slots, 6.10 per unit will be charged. Telangana government has announced draft policy on electric vehicles in April this year and the Ministry of Power tariff policy for electric vehicles in May this year.

The discoms have submitted their proposal to the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) for fixing the above tariff for 2018-19. When it comes to fixed charges, 60 per kilowatt for one month has been proposed while HT will cost 390 a month.

Electricity vehicle charges was proposed in March which was denied by the regulatory commission stating that setting up of electric vehicle charging stations was at a very nascent stage and there was no concrete development.

“Now Telangana RTC has decided to procure electric vehicles in the city and is planning to run them to the airport. Electric bikes are being kept at metro rail stations for public use. On the other hand, the sale of private electric vehicles is also on the rise. under such circumstances, there is a need for tariff order,” a chief general manager of TSSPDCL said.

This apart, Telangana government has announced draft policy on electric vehicles in April this year and the Ministry of Power tariff policy for electric vehicles in May this year. The discoms requested the government for permits to introduce separate category for electric vehicles.

The TSERC has asked the people to submit their objections and suggestions before September 12 on the proposed tariff.

For low tension, the charge will be 6.10 per unit and for high tension use, 7.10 per unit from 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm. From 10pm to 6am, 5.10 per unit will be charged. At other slots, 6.10 per unit will be charged.
