Arm Cortex-M23 based MCU introduced for Global Market Targeting IoT Security

Nuvoton Technology Corporation, a leading microcontroller platform solution provider, is showing the latest achievements with the NuMicro M2351 Series. The M2351 is the first Arm Cortex-M23 based MCUs that has been both PSA Certified Level 1 and PSA Functional API Certified. The certification process was conducted at Beijing’s CTTL-Terminal Laboratory (China Telecommunication Technology Laboratory), which belongs to CAICT (China Academy of Information and Communication Technology).

Nuvoton takes the shared responsibility of security with Arm and its ecosystem very seriously and together work towards the vision of a trillion connected devices. We can expect anything connected to the internet to be hacked eventually, so security can never be optional. Therefore to implement security in a trusted manner, independent testing is crucial.

“In a world of a trillion connected devices trust is essential, and it’s our industry’s responsibility to enable this trust,” said Paul Williamson, VP and GM, Emerging Business Group at Arm. “PSA Certified enables IoT solution developers and device makers to verify their solutions have been designed with a secure foundation, in line with PSA principles. Nuvoton is the first of our partners to deliver both a Level 1 PSA Certified and PSA Functional API Certified solution with the NuMicro M2351 Series.”

If the robustness of a device’s security can be certified by a trusted third party, people can trust in this device and enable the deployment of many of these devices at scale. Nuvoton selects the M2351 Series microcontrollers to be PSA Certified with CTTL, Beijing. Furthermore, M2351 Series has equipped enough functionality for a final IoT product design so we do believe our customers will benefit from all offerings of the series easily to build secure IoT applications to scale faster and more cost effectively.

In achieving PSA Functional API Certification, Nuvoton better enables ecosystem software compatibility to PSA standards, independent of hardware platforms. There is an open source project, Trusted Firmware-M (TF-M), for minimizing production effort and ease of software integration. It’s a highly configurable to suit target applications on constrained devices. TF-M is eligible to be a foundation for a secure IoT platform, e.g. NuMicro M2351Series, TrustZone for Armv8-M devices.

Major features of NuMicro M2351 Series:

    • Arm Cortex-M23 with TrustZone processor capable of supporting:
      • 64 MHz operating frequency
      • 512 K-Byte Flash/ 96 K-Byte SRAM
      • Secure Bootloader
      • Secure Debug
      • Cryptographic Hardware Accelerators covering AES, SHA, DES/3DES, ECC
      • Tamper detection pins
    • Arm Pelion IoT Platform connection support
    • Low-power consumption with LDO or DC-DC power supply
