    Chinese Taiwan LED manufacturers Contending for Indian Market Share

    “Energy Efficiency in buildings has tremendous potential. It is estimated that more than 25% of electicity is consumend in houses, office buildings, shops and malls. , Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA), has recently submitted the proposal to government of Maharashtra for making Energy Conservation Building Codes (ECBC) mandatory along with rules. LED’s are going to play very important role in implementing these mandates & achieving climate mitigation tragets.” Shri Rajaram Mane (I.A.S), Director General, MEDA, announced on the sidelines of LED Expo Inauguration in Mumbai on May 11, 2017.

    The renowned international platform and India’s largest exhibition on LED lighting products and technology opened onMay 11, 2017, at the Bombay Convention & Exhibtition Centre. The trade fair hosts 215 exhibitors from five countries and will run until 13 May this week. Among these are market leaders such as Indian Automated Die Casting Co. P Ltd, LED Fixtures, Innovo Lites, Lumens Technologies Pvt Ltd, Opulus Electricals India Pvt Ltd, Rabyte Electronics/Osram, S.M.Solar Products Ltd, Swingtel Communications Pvt. Ltd and more.

    The Maharashtra government has already initiated plans for distribution of LED bulbs to domestic markets and replacing street lights in Mumbai to LED lights. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) currently spends approximately INR 1640 million (USD 24.59 million) annually on street lights. A proposal to install 4,400 LED lights at major city roads has also been approved by the Mumbai civic body. Supporting the growing adoption of these energy-saving lights, LED Expo aims to further stimulate the implementation of price-competitive LED solutions across the state. Shri Rajaram Mane further added that MEDA is also in process to implement schemes for 90,000 schools and colleges in Maharashtra for providng financial assistance for procurement of LED’s based on some need-based surveys conducted all over Maharashtra.

    Now in its 16th edition, the trade fair is being organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and is larger than ever with a 39% increase in participation over the previous years. High turnout is seen from Asian manufacturers who are vying for a share in the Indian LED market. Among these are manufacturers from China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.

    The first day also marks the launch of several new products in wireless street lighting, smart bulbs, guide panels, wireless and bluetooth controls, solar powered lighting products, tunable LED lights, indoor and outdoor lighting soultions, LED signage and displays, drives and power supply, LED components and other applications.

    Day two of the fair will see senior leaders including Dr Jagdish Patil, IAS, General Manager, BEST Undertaking, Mr Saurabh Diddi, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Mr Dipak Kokate, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Mr Nitin L Patel, Electrical Research And Development Association, Mr Kaushik Shendye, Dy Manager, BAG Electronics, Mr Pratap Padode, Founder & Director at Smart Cities Council India who are expected to join the LED Summit. The focus of the summit will be on government policies to promote indigenous manufacturing and the lighting update report 2016 along with technical aspects covering the next LED revolution through innovations in energy, data-enabled street lighting as the backbone for smart cities, smart lighting controls for intelligent buildings and the journey of leds and its emerging possibilities.

    Addressing the industry at the inauguration, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding Ltd said “LED Expo is committed to supporting the next phase of LED implementation. This edition brings a host of such innovations to the show floor. The platform also features product demonstrations and research results through the concurrent LED Summit which is sure to attract interest from key decision makers from both B2B & B2C segments, making it ideal for business.”

    The trade fair covers all aspects of LED lighting and applications, serving the cause of promoting energy efficient, environment friendly and cost-saving technologies in India and is being strongly supported by various ministries and government bodies from across the state.

    While extending his support for LED Expo 2017, Shri. Chandrashekar Bawankule, Chief Guest, Hon’ble Minister of Energy, New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of Maharashtra shared, “Maharashtra Government is commited to promote energy effficency by giving led bulbs at highly subsidized price and replacing all the conventional bulbs in government with led products. Government is also deciding to replace all the CFL street lights in over 43,000 villages in the state with LED bulbs. The scheme will be implemented in phase manner by the Maharashta Energy Development Agency (MEDA) Use of LED’s shall lead to energy saving of 50% to 60% in the state”.
